Afroncontigbo is a contemporary African dance studio. In this partnership, I illustrated four backgrounds for their showcase and developed assets for marketing and handouts.
Background Concepts
In honoring Afroncontigbo's blend of rich African heritage and modern expression, we focused on traditional design elements with a contemporary twist:
1. Down to Earth – Inspired by African-rooted motifs such as the hibiscus flower and patterned lettering, this background features dancers grounded in tradition.
2. On Fire – Highlights the iconic Baobab Tree (Tree of Life) against a vivid sunset landscape, symbolizing strength, warmth, and endurance.
3. Pop of Culture – Merges elements from multiple traditions and influences into a vibrant collage, celebrating the diversity and fusion of African cultures.
4. Together Under the Moon – Set in a serene forest illuminated by the moon, this piece evokes unity, reflection, and collective spirit
Lettering
Through in-depth creative research , I explored how traditional motifs could inform modern design elements. I developed a custom lettering style that complemented both the visual language and the cultural tone of the project. This font was used as part of the background design and integrated into a repeating pattern to enhance the visual storytelling for the showcase.
Templates
Using the backgrounds created, I helped laid out some templates for the organization to use for marketing and handouts: certificates, tickets, digital templates, program, and more.
